Pune: Corruption Allegations Against Two PCMC Officials, Fadnavis Orders Civic Chief to Conduct High-Level Probe
Pimpri Chinchwad, 10th September 2026: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered an inquiry into allegations of financial irregularities and corruption against two officials of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s Building Permission Department, following a complaint by former deputy mayor and corporator BJP’s Tushar Raghunath Hinge.
Fadnavis has directed PCMC commissioner Vijay Suryawanshi to conduct a high-level inquiry into the allegations against joint city engineer Sunil Bhagwani and executive engineer Vijay Sonawane.
In his complaint, Hinge alleged that the two officials had remained in key positions in the Building Construction and Permission departments for several years and had used their positions to create a network of corruption. He alleged that officials deliberately raised technical objections and created hurdles in building permission files, allegedly demanding bribes before processing them.
Hinge further alleged that a corruption money of Rs 5-10 per sq ft was demanded on files submitted to the department and that applications were not processed until the alleged payments were made. He claimed the practice had resulted in delays to construction projects and harassment of citizens and developers.
Hinge has sought the immediate transfer of both officials from the Building Permission Department and an Anti-Corruption Bureau probe into their tenure and assets.
“Some officials in the municipal corporation’s building permission department are creating a reign of corruption. By stalling files, they have started financially exploiting citizens and businessmen. The Chief Minister has ordered an inquiry. Instead of merely transferring these two officials, their assets should also be probed through the Anti-Corruption Bureau,” Hinge said.
The inquiry was ordered on the basis of Hinge’s written complaint. The allegations are yet to be established, and the officials’ responses to the charges were not immediately available.
