Two Arrested for Mobile Phone Snatching in Pune’s Kondhwa; Six Handsets Seized
Kondhwa, 10th September 2026: Kondhwa police have arrested two men for allegedly snatching a mobile phone from a person near Prime Hospital and recovered six mobile phones and a moped, collectively valued at ₹60,000.
The suspects were identified as Safi Ulla Hafiz Ulla Shah, 18, a resident of Shivneri Nagar in Kondhwa, and Mehtab Jalaluddin Chaudhary, 20, a resident of Ashraf Nagar in Kondhwa. Both are originally from Balrampur district in Uttar Pradesh, police said.
According to police, the complainant was making a video call near Prime Hospital in the Kamela area around noon when two unidentified men approached him from behind on a moped.
The rider was wearing a white shirt, while the pillion rider was wearing a red shirt, the complaint stated. The pillion rider allegedly snatched the mobile phone from the complainant’s hand before the pair sped away towards Kondhwa.
Kondhwa police registered a case on September 4 under Sections 309 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Suspects traced using CCTV footage
Police personnel Shahid Rajput, Prashant Khade and Karkhele examined footage from CCTV cameras installed in and around the area and gathered information about the unidentified suspects.
Based on the investigation, police detained Shah and Chaudhary. The two allegedly confessed to committing the offence during questioning, police said.
“Six mobile phones and one moped, collectively valued at ₹60,000, were seized from the accused,” Senior Police Inspector Santosh Khetmalas said.
Further investigation is underway to determine whether the seized mobile phones are connected to other theft or snatching cases.

The operation was conducted under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) Rajlaxmi Shivankar, Assistant Commissioner of Police Ramdas Ingale, Senior Police Inspector Santosh Khetmalas, Police Inspector (Crime) Prashant Mandale and Police Inspector (Crime) Santosh Chaudhary.
