Pune: 90 Women Employees, Engineers to Drive Operations on Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro

Pune, 12th September 2026: As the first phase of the Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro corridor nears commissioning, around 90 women employees and engineers are set to be part of its operations, including women train pilots who will operate the Metro services.

The first phase of the 23-km corridor, being developed on a public-private partnership (PPP) model under the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), will connect Maan Megapolis in Hinjewadi with the RK Laxman Museum in Balewadi.

The second phase will extend the corridor from Balewadi to Shivajinagar Civil Court.

Of the 22 Metro train sets planned for the corridor, 20 have been delivered so far. Trained women pilots and other technical staff have been deployed for operations and related responsibilities.

The deployment of women across train operations, engineering and other technical roles is among the notable features of the project. PMRDA officials said the Metro corridor, which passes through Pune’s major IT hub, is expected to have a significant impact on connectivity as well as the region’s social and commercial activity.

The project is being implemented through a PPP model, with PMRDA overseeing its development and pursuing the completion of the first phase.
