Pune: Political Analyst and Veteran Congress Leader Ratnakar Mahajan Dies at 80

Pune, 12th September 2026: Senior Congress leader, socialist thinker and political analyst Dr Ratnakar Mahajan died at his Pune residence on Saturday following a brief illness. He was 80.

Mahajan, who had been unwell for the past few days, hailed from Indapur taluka and moved to Pune for higher education. His last rites will be performed at Vaikunth Smashanbhoomi later on Saturday.

A prominent voice on social and political issues, Mahajan was associated with the Yuvak Kranti Dal, Rashtra Seva Dal, Bharat Jodo Abhiyan and various student movements.

After joining the Congress, he served as spokesperson of the party’s Maharashtra unit and was also the editor of the party’s magazine, ‘Shidori’.
