Hinjawadi Traffic, Water and Power Issues: Pune Collector Sets Deadlines for Solutions
Pune, 12th September 2026: Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi has directed government agencies and departments to take time-bound measures to address traffic congestion, public transport, road infrastructure, water supply, electricity and solid waste management issues in and around Hinjawadi IT Park.
Dudi reviewed the issues at a high-level committee meeting convened to address infrastructure-related concerns in Hinjewadi, Maan and Marunje. MLA Shankar Mandekar, Resident Deputy Collector Jyoti Kadam and a large number of local residents attended the meeting.
As part of efforts to ease traffic congestion, authorities will collect company-wise travel data of employees commuting to and from the Hinjewadi IT Park. The data will be used to determine Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) bus routes, starting points and terminal stops and to increase services where required.
Dudi said arrangements are being made to deploy around 20 to 30 additional buses in the Hinjewadi area on an urgent basis. The area will also be given priority in the deployment of 500 new buses expected to become available in the future. Plans will also be made to introduce feeder bus services connecting metro stations with offices and residential areas.
For road infrastructure, six major roads in Hinjewadi have been identified for priority widening. Dudi directed the concerned agencies to complete the required land acquisition process and start the actual road-widening work by December 1.
The electricity poles and underground cables obstructing road-widening work will also be shifted. The concerned departments have been asked to prepare estimates and initiate the process at the earliest. Work to asphalt service roads has been directed to be completed within the next 10 to 15 days.
To address recurring power supply issues, work on setting up new electricity substations in the Hinjawadi area will be expedited. Dudi directed officials to speed up approvals for the proposed substations at Lavale and Mahalunge and make the required land available through advance possession.
Officials were also directed to expedite the proposed water supply scheme for Hinjawadi and ensure that the land required for the project is made available without delay.
On solid waste management, the administration will coordinate with gram panchayats to prepare a concrete action plan within a month. Housing societies have been given seven days to establish an effective system for waste collection and management.
The meeting also decided to improve and beautify bus stops, bus shelters and areas around metro stations in Hinjawadi. The locations of bus stops will be finalised in consultation with local residents and other stakeholders.
During the meeting, residents from Hinjawadi, Maan and Marunje raised several concerns related to traffic, water supply, electricity, roads and waste management. Dudi heard the residents’ concerns and discussed them with the concerned officials, directing the departments to initiate necessary action promptly.
“Any solution in the Hinjawadi area must be implemented in a scientific and planned manner. By coordinating the three basic facilities of transport, water and electricity, the required services will be made available to residents and the IT workforce at the earliest,” Dudi said.
The district administration also reviewed the progress of various departmental works and directed officials to prepare time-bound plans for each project. Dudi said the progress of the works would be reviewed regularly and that the next review meeting will be held on Thursday at 4 pm.
