Pune: UGC Approves YCMOU’s Online B.Com, MCA From Current Academic Year; No Intake Cap
Pune, 14th September 2026: Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU) has received approval from the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) Distance Education Bureau to offer Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) and Master of Computer Applications (MCA) programmes entirely online from the current academic year.
With the approval, YCMOU now has four online programmes. The university was earlier permitted to offer Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) online.
There will be no intake limit for the B.Com and MCA programmes, allowing a large number of students to pursue higher education remotely. However, the online MBA programme has an intake capacity of 1,000 students.
YCMOU Vice-Chancellor Dr Sanjeev Sonawane said the university has been preparing for the online education system for the past two years. It has developed separate learning videos for each credit of the programmes, with as many as 150 videos created for a single credit.
The university has also designed online questionnaires after each video to ensure students develop a deeper understanding of the subjects rather than merely receive course content. One mentor will be appointed for every 100 students to address their queries and provide academic support.
