Ganeshotsav 2026: Pune Police Act Against 1,292 in Zone 7, Extern 22 Habitual Offenders
Pune, 14th September 2026: Pune Police have taken preventive action against 1,292 people in Zone 7 ahead of Ganeshotsav, including externing 22 habitual offenders and barring 253 others from processions, public gatherings and crowded festival events.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 7) Abinash Kumar said the measures were taken after reviewing the criminal records, recent movements and potential law-and-order risks associated with people on police records.
“To ensure that Ganeshotsav 2026 is celebrated peacefully and safely without any disruption to law and order, preventive action has been taken against 1,292 people across Zone 7,” DCP Kumar said.
The station-wise action covered 249 people under Vimantal Police Station, 202 under Chandan Nagar, 166 under Kharadi, 227 under Wagholi, 166 under Lonikand and 282 under Lohgaon Police Station.
Twenty-Two Habitual Offenders Externed
Police have issued final long-term externment orders against 22 habitual offenders in cases where the legal requirements for such action were fulfilled. The orders have been implemented, DCP Kumar said. The Zone 7 action against the 22 offenders was also part of a wider externment drive conducted by Pune Police ahead of the festival.
Separately, orders have been issued against 253 people under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, directing them to stay away from Ganeshotsav processions, public meetings, crowded programmes and other public events during the festival.
“The movements of those covered by the preventive orders will be monitored to ensure effective implementation. Immediate and strict legal action will be taken against anyone who disturbs law and order or violates the orders,” DCP Kumar said.
Depending on the nature of individual cases, action has been initiated under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, Maharashtra Police Act, Maharashtra Prohibition Act and other applicable legal provisions.
More Than 100 Offenders Under Surveillance
Police are also closely monitoring the movements of more than 100 people with criminal records in the Zone 7 jurisdiction.
According to the press note, those facing preventive action have previously been linked to offences including murder involving firearms, criminal conspiracy, possession of illegal firearms and other deadly weapons, extortion, robbery, rioting, vandalism, causing grievous hurt, gambling and human trafficking.
The list also includes offences involving the sexual abuse of minors, assault, criminal intimidation, glorification of criminal activity through videos and the illegal manufacture or sale of country liquor.
DCP Kumar appealed to citizens to cooperate with the police to ensure that Ganeshotsav is celebrated in a peaceful, enthusiastic and safe environment.
Members of the public who notice suspicious activity, criminal conduct or any act likely to disturb law and order should immediately call the police emergency helpline 112 or contact the nearest police station, he said.
