Pune Ganeshotsav 2026: PMC Steps Up Preparations for One-and-a-Half-Day Ganpati Immersion

Pune, 14th September 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has completed preparations for the immersion of one-and-a-half-day Ganpati idols, with artificial immersion tanks, iron tanks, nirmalya collection centres and lifeguards arranged across the city.

With large crowds expected at riverbanks and immersion spots, the PMC Fire Brigade will maintain 24-hour security arrangements at 15 major ghats. The civic administration has also appealed to devotees to avoid immersing idols in natural water bodies and use the artificial immersion tanks provided at designated locations.

According to the PMC, the city has 37 permanent immersion tanks, with arrangements made at 35 locations. In addition, 69 temporary artificial tanks have been installed at 38 locations. As many as 648 iron tanks will be available at 281 locations for devotees.

For the collection of nirmalya, the PMC has established 328 collection centres at 274 locations. Idol collection and donation centres have also been arranged at 241 locations.

The immersion arrangements cover major locations including Amruteshwar, Pulachi Wadi, Nataraj Cinema, Omkareshwar, Vriddheshwar, Garware College, Panchaleshwar, Ashtabhuja Temple, Sangam, Vitthal Temple, Bappu Ghat, Thosar Paga, Chima Udyan, Yerawada, Dattawadi and Warje crematorium ghat.

Lifeguards will be deployed along with fire brigade personnel at the ghats. Ninety lifeguards will work in three shifts, while 30 additional lifeguards will remain on standby at the Central Fire Station. Additional ropes and life jackets will also be kept ready at immersion points.

The PMC’s Solid Waste Management Department has prepared ward-wise arrangements to manage waste generated during the immersion process. Mobile toilets will also be provided at locations wherever required.

The civic body has additionally made immersion arrangements at four lakes, seven wells and 41 canal locations. The facilities have been planned in view of the expected increase in crowds during the various immersion days between September 14 and 25.

The PMC has urged citizens to cooperate with the civic administration and opt for environmentally friendly immersion practices while following safety guidelines at designated immersion points.
