Pune: Pimpri Chinchwad Illegal Buildings to Face Action Soon, Says Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule

Pimpri Chinchwad, 18th September 2026: The state revenue department is set to crack down on large illegal constructions in Pimpri Chinchwad, with Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule directing officials to stop registration of such buildings and initiate action against builders responsible for unauthorised projects.

Bawankule, who visited the city for Ganeshotsav on Thursday, said action would target builders who have put up unauthorised structures while efforts would also be made to protect citizens who have been caught in such projects.

Speaking to reporters after meeting Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Dr Vijay Suryawanshi at his residence, Bawankule said the civic administration had been asked to take a strict approach towards unauthorised constructions. A meeting would be held soon to decide the further course of action.

“Buildings that can be regularised as per rules will be regularised, while those that cannot will face action,” Bawankule said. He added that the government would ensure that ordinary citizens who have invested in such properties do not suffer unnecessarily.

Bawankule said a 25-year master plan for Pimpri Chinchwad has been prepared, with planning for water requirements keeping the city’s projected population growth in mind. Discussions with the civic commissioner also covered unauthorised constructions, water supply and issues concerning farmers.

He said a recent survey in Nagpur had identified around 3,900 unauthorised constructions allegedly developed by builders and similar action would be considered against those found to have deceived citizens in Pimpri Chinchwad.

On the proposal to merge seven villages, Bawankule said the state government had not yet received a formal proposal. The decision would be taken as per rules after gram sabha resolutions are received through the revenue department.

He said efforts would be made to retain existing reservations on land while incorporating villages into the municipal corporation.

Bawankule also said tractors used by farmers to transport soil and murum for agricultural purposes would not be seized. He said the government would also work to end the alleged harassment of farmers over royalty payments, with responsibility for royalty to be fixed on the end user rather than intermediaries.

On allotment of land to the Gurukulam organisation despite an adverse report, Bawankule said the project would benefit tribal children. He clarified that the land would not be donated but allotted subject to applicable rules and conditions.

Under the Seva Sankalp campaign, being conducted from September 17 to October 17, the government will also process land ownership rights for people who have been living on government land since before January 1, 2011, he said.
