Pune, 2nd November 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Pune Metro Line 3, popularly known as the Pink Line, and lay the foundation stone for four new metro corridors under Phase II on November 3. The projects, collectively estimated to cost around ₹21,800 crore, are expected to significantly expand the city’s public transport network.

The programme will be held at 12.30 pm through video conferencing, during which the Prime Minister will also address the gathering.

The Pink Line, developed at an investment of over ₹8,300 crore, covers approximately 23 km and connects Maan with the District Court Metro station. The corridor will provide direct metro connectivity between the Hinjewadi IT hub and Shivajinagar, offering an alternative mode of transport to thousands of IT professionals and other daily commuters.

The new line will also connect with the existing Pune Metro network, allowing passengers to access other parts of the city through interchange facilities. It is expected to reduce dependence on private vehicles and help ease traffic congestion while lowering vehicular emissions.

A distinctive feature of Metro Line 3 is that it will be operated entirely by women train operators. The project also incorporates renewable energy initiatives, with around 30% of its electricity requirements planned to be met through solar power.

Four new corridors under Phase II

Apart from inaugurating the Pink Line, Modi will lay the foundation stone for Pune Metro Phase II, which involves an estimated investment of ₹13,500 crore. The expansion will include four corridors — Lines 2A, 2B, 4 and 4A — aimed at improving connectivity to the city’s growing residential, commercial and IT destinations.
The proposed Lines 2A and 2B will have a combined length of approximately 12.75 km. Line 2A will extend from Vanaz to Chandani Chowk, while Line 2B will connect Ramwadi with Vitthalwadi.

The 25.52-km Line 4 will connect Kharadi with Khadakwasla. Another corridor, Line 4A, will cover 6.12 km between Nal Stop and Manik Baug.

Kharadi, Hadapsar and Warje to get better connectivity

The Phase II expansion is expected to improve metro access to several important locations, including Kharadi, Magarpatta, Hadapsar, Swargate, Manik Baug, Nanded City, Pune Cantonment and Warje.

The proposed extension from Ramwadi to Vitthalwadi is expected to strengthen connectivity to the rapidly developing residential and commercial areas of Kharadi and Wagholi.

The new corridors will also be integrated with the existing Pune Metro network and intercity bus services. Interchange facilities at Swargate, Nal Stop and Kharadi Bypass are planned to facilitate passenger movement between different transport systems.

With the inauguration of Line 3 and the launch of Phase II works, Pune is set to take another major step towards expanding its mass rapid transit infrastructure. The projects are expected to improve connectivity between key employment centres, residential areas and commercial hubs while providing commuters with additional public transport options.
