Pune: Fake MLA Logos On Cars May Cost Drivers Their Licences in Pimpri Chinchwad
Pimpri Chinchwad, 18th September 2026: Vehicle owners displaying unauthorised and fake “Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Member (MLA)” logos and the Ashoka emblem on their vehicles to flaunt political influence may now face stricter action, with police set to send proposals to the Regional Transport Office (RTO) for suspension of the driving licences of the drivers concerned.
Police have begun registering cases against such vehicle owners and drivers under provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). In the past four days, six cases have been registered against eight people at different police stations.
Pimpri Chinchwad has three MLAs from the Pimpri, Chinchwad and Bhosari assembly constituencies and two members of the Legislative Council. Despite this, the use of MLA logos on a large number of expensive vehicles in the city has repeatedly raised questions about their authenticity.
According to police, investigations found that the logos were being used even though neither the vehicle owners nor their family members were legislators. Cases were registered last week against those found using “Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Member (MLA)” logos and the Ashoka emblem without authorisation.
Police will now send proposals to the transport department, as per rules, seeking suspension of the driving licences of the drivers concerned. This means the violators could face both criminal proceedings and action against their driving licences.
Police officials said action would not be restricted to issuing challans or registering cases.
The traffic branch has taken action against 5,72,018 vehicles since January for violations including riding without helmets, use of fancy number plates, tinted films, modified silencers and other traffic offences.
A total of Rs 63.78 crore in fines has been collected from motorists during this period.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Vikrant Deshmukh said citizens could use the “Traffic Buddy” WhatsApp chatbot to report traffic congestion, traffic regulation issues and other traffic-related problems.
