Will It Rain During Pune Ganesh Visarjan? IMD Issues Yellow Alert for September 25
Pune, 22nd September 2026: Pune city and the ghat areas are likely to receive rain on September 25, Anant Chaturdashi, when thousands of devotees are expected to participate in Ganesh immersion processions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Pune for the day.
The possibility of rain comes as a low-pressure area has developed over the Bay of Bengal, while the southwest monsoon is expected to begin withdrawing from Maharashtra around September 24-25. These weather systems are likely to influence rainfall activity across the state.
The weather alert comes ahead of Pune’s major Ganesh immersion processions. If showers occur during the day or evening, devotees, mandals and others participating in the processions may have to make arrangements for wet weather while travelling to and from the procession routes.
Pune received rain in several areas on Sunday. Between 4 pm and 5 pm, dark clouds covered parts of the city, followed by strong winds and rain in several areas.
Hadapsar and Wanowrie received heavy showers, leading to waterlogging on some roads and inconvenience to commuters. Rain was also reported from Magarpatta and Koregaon Park.
According to rainfall data, Hadapsar recorded 15 mm of rain, while Wanowrie received 20 mm. Magarpatta recorded 5 mm and Koregaon Park 2.5 mm on Sunday.
With a yellow alert in place for Anant Chaturdashi, citizens planning to attend the immersion processions should remain prepared for changing weather conditions and carry umbrellas or raincoats.
