Pune Ganpati Visarjan 2026: Roads Closing From 5 AM—Check Your Route Before Leaving

Pune, 23rd September 2026: Seventeen road stretches in Pune will be closed to regular traffic at different times on Friday, September 25, for the main Ganesh immersion procession. The first closures will begin at 5 a.m., while a no-parking restriction on parts of the procession route will take effect at 11 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, according to the Pune City Traffic Branch.

The procession is expected to begin at around 9 a.m. on September 25. Most road closures will remain in place until the procession concludes on September 26, with changes made according to traffic conditions.

Emergency-service vehicles, police vehicles, ambulances and vehicles participating in the procession are exempted from the procession-route restrictions described in the note.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dr Sandeep Bhajibhakare, who signed the note, urged motorists to follow the diversions. “Citizens should use the alternative routes mentioned above and cooperate with the traffic police to avoid traffic congestion,” he said.

Closures will begin in stages
From 5 a.m. on September 25, Shivaji Road will be closed between the Kakasaheb Gadgil statue junction and Jedhe Chowk, and Laxmi Road between Sant Kabir Chowki and Alka Talkies Chowk.

At 9 a.m., closures will begin on Tilak Road from Jedhe Chowk to Tilak Chowk; Bagade Road from Sonya Maruti Chowk to Phadke Haud Chowk; and Guru Nanak Road from Devjibaba Chowk through Hamjekhan Chowk to Govind Halwai Chowk.

Six further stretches are scheduled to close at 10 a.m.: Bajirao Road from Savarkar Chowk to Phutka Buruj Chowk; Kumthekar Road from Tilak Chowk to Chitale Corner; Ganesh Road from Daruwala Bridge to Jijamata Chowk; Kelkar Road from Budhwar Chowk to Alka Talkies Chowk; and Shastri Road from Senadatta Chowki to Alka Talkies Chowk.

At 11 a.m., restrictions will begin on Jungli Maharaj Road between Jhansi Rani Chowk and Khanduji Baba Chowk, and on Fergusson College Road between Khanduji Baba Chowk and the Fergusson College main gate.

From noon, Karve Road will be closed between Nal Stop and Khanduji Baba Chowk; Bhandarkar Road from the PYC Gymkhana area via Goodluck Chowk to Nataraj Chowk; Pune–Satara Road from Volga Chowk to Jedhe Chowk; Solapur Road from Seven Loves Chowk to Jedhe Chowk; and Prabhat Road from Deccan Post Office to Shelar Mama Chowk. These scheduled closures, too, are to continue until the procession ends on September 26.

Diversions and alternative routes
Police have identified 10 diversion points, including Jhansi Rani Chowk on Jungli Maharaj Road, the Kakasaheb Gadgil statue junction on Shivaji Road, Sant Kabir Police Chowki on Laxmi Road, Savarkar Chowk on Bajirao Road and Nal Stop on Karve Road. Traffic may be diverted at these points as needed after the procession begins.

Motorists have to use alternative routes, including Law College Road, Senapati Bapat Road, Ganeshkhind Road, Ambedkar Road, Nehru Road, Bhavani Peth Road and Sinhagad Road. It says two-way traffic will be permitted on the specified alternative stretches from September 25 until the procession ends.

No-parking restrictions and heavy vehicles
From 11 p.m. on September 24 until the main procession concludes, parking will be prohibited on specified stretches of Laxmi, Kelkar, Kumthekar, Tilak, Bajirao, Shivaji, Shastri, Jungli Maharaj, Karve and Fergusson College roads. The restriction also covers a 100-metre stretch of the connecting road between Khanduji Baba Chowk and Hotel Vaishali. Existing parking arrangements on the listed stretches will be suspended during that period, except for the vehicles specified in the notice.

Also, a citywide entry ban on heavy vehicles will be in effect for 48 hours, from 12:01 a.m. on September 25 through the end of September 26.

Changes in Dhayari, Keshavnagar and Hadapsar
Additional local restrictions will apply on September 25 from 11 a.m. until midnight. Traffic heading from Dhayari Phata towards Umbrya Ganpati Chowk will be stopped and directed via the Dhayari flyover, Rajyog Society Chowk, Nanded City Chowk and the canal bridge. Traffic from Sinhagad Road towards Wadgaon vegetable market and the nearby Charwad Vasti, Tukai Nagar and Sai Nagar areas will also be restricted, with alternatives via Goyal Ganga Chowk and Sinhagad College Road or Veer Baji Pasalkar Chowk.

In the Sasane Nagar–Hadapsar area, traffic changes may be imposed as needed from 6 a.m. to midnight on both September 24 and 25. The note identifies restrictions for vehicles travelling from Kalepadal underpass towards Sasane Nagar Main Road, from Kalepadal towards Navnath Chowk Ganpati Mandir and D-Mart Road, from New English School D.P. Road towards Sasane Nagar Main Road, and from Hadapsar towards Saiyadnagar via Sasane Nagar Road. It lists local alternative routes for affected motorists.

Police said 26 designated parking locations have been arranged for people attending the immersion procession and asked visitors to park only in the allotted spaces.
