Pune: MPSC Aspirants Postpone Sept 27 Agitation Following Police Commissioner’s Appeal, Plan Satyagraha On Oct 2

Pune, 26th September 2026: MPSC aspirants have postponed their proposed September 27 agitation to October 2 following a request from Pune police commissioner Amitesh Kumar, NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar said on Friday.

According to Pawar, he met Kumar along with representatives of the protesting students after the commissioner invited them for discussions. Kumar requested the students to defer the agitation, citing the heavy deployment of the police force for the 12-day Ganeshotsav and immersion arrangements.

The students agreed to the request and decided to hold a satyagraha on October 2, Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary, instead. The protest will be held on S M Joshi Marg, opposite the Pune Patrakar Bhavan, Pawar said.

Pawar said police had also indicated that they were prepared to grant permission for the October 2 agitation.

The students are demanding action over their grievances related to the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC), including the resignation of its chairman Vivek Bhimanwar. Pawar’s post referred to the chairman as “corrupt”, but this is his and the protesters’ allegation and has not been independently established.

Pawar said the students had resolved not to withdraw the agitation until their demands were addressed. He also said the government could prevent the protest by holding discussions with the students and resolving their concerns.

“If the government wants to stop the satyagraha, it is in its hands. The students are ready for discussions if the government engages with their representatives,” Pawar said in his post.

He added that the students would withdraw the agitation if their demands, including the chairman’s resignation, were accepted.

The meeting with the police commissioner was attended by student representatives and leaders from different political parties, Pawar said.

The students had earlier planned to hold the agitation on September 27. Police had denied permission for the proposed protest at Tilak Chowk, citing law-and-order concerns, and had suggested alternative locations.
