Pune: New Road Damaged Soon After Construction Near Raheja Reserve in Mohammadwadi; Residents Seek PMC Inspection

Mohammadwadi, 29th September 2026: A newly constructed road near Raheja Reserve in Mohammadwadi has suffered damage shortly after being laid, with residents alleging that the deterioration may have been caused by the movement of heavy vehicles in the area.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) had constructed the road following a fatal accident, with the work undertaken to improve connectivity and road safety for residents and commuters.
However, the newly laid stretch is already showing visible signs of damage, prompting concerns among residents and road users over heavy vehicle movement, construction quality and the monitoring of newly completed civic infrastructure.
Ashok Mehendale, a local resident, said, “It is concerning that a road constructed only recently is already showing signs of damage. If heavy vehicles are responsible, the PMC must examine why such traffic was allowed on the newly laid stretch and take appropriate action. Public money should not be repeatedly spent on repairing roads that have just been constructed.”
Another resident Tara Singh said, “The road was constructed after a tragic accident, and residents expected it to provide safer and smoother connectivity. Seeing the road damaged so soon is disappointing. The authorities need to ensure that newly constructed roads are protected from heavy vehicles and that the quality of the work is properly monitored.”
Senior journalist Nadim Imandar, who resides near the spot, said, “The PMC should conduct an immediate inspection of the damaged stretch and identify the exact reason for the deterioration. If heavy vehicles have caused the damage, there should be proper regulation and enforcement. At the same time, the quality of the road construction must also be examined so that responsibility is clearly fixed.”
Residents and road users have sought clarification from the PMC on whether adequate restrictions or protective measures were put in place to prevent heavy vehicles from damaging the newly constructed road. They have also sought information on whether action will be taken against vehicles found responsible for the damage.
The incident has also raised broader concerns over the durability and monitoring of civic road projects. Residents have questioned how a newly constructed road could deteriorate so quickly and who will bear the cost of any required repairs.
