World Heart Day in Pune: AICTS Highlights Cardiac Warning Signs, Emergency Response and Prevention
Camp, 29th September 2026: The Army Institute of Cardio-Thoracic Sciences (AICTS), Pune, organised a health awareness programme at the Southern Star Auditorium to mark World Heart Day, focusing on early recognition of cardiac warning signs, timely medical intervention and preventive healthcare.
The programme was held under the theme “Don’t Miss a Beat” and was attended by Lt Gen Ajay Kumar, Chief of Staff, Headquarters Southern Command.
Health awareness lectures formed a key part of the programme, covering common cardiovascular risk factors, early signs and symptoms of cardiac diseases, preventive measures and the importance of seeking timely medical advice.
Participants were also given a practical demonstration of Basic Life Support (BLS) and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to familiarise them with emergency response measures during cardiac emergencies.
Screening for hypertension, diabetes and obesity was conducted for serving personnel and their families as part of the initiative.
AICTS also extended the awareness campaign beyond the main event through health talks for Army school children, serving personnel, their families and veterans in Pune. A Veterans Outreach Programme provided an opportunity for veterans to interact with healthcare professionals and understand the importance of regular health monitoring.
A health awareness skit, along with a Cyclothon and Walkathon, was organised to reinforce the messages of early recognition of cardiac symptoms and the importance of regular physical activity.
The initiative brought together lectures, practical demonstrations, health screening and community outreach to promote preventive cardiovascular health among serving personnel, veterans and their families.
