Pune Police Constable Identified For Assaulting 17-Year-Old After Pothole Water Splashed On Him

Pune, 30th September 2026: Lohgaon Police have identified a police constable who allegedly chased and assaulted a 17-year-old boy after rainwater from a pothole splashed onto him while the teenager was riding a moped in the Lohgaon area.

The accused has been identified as Vasant Jagtap, who is posted at Chandannagar Police Station. Police have issued him a notice and are expected to file a chargesheet in the case soon, said Senior Police Inspector Manisha Patil.

The incident took place around 9 pm on July 26. According to police, the 17-year-old student was returning home on his moped after meeting friends at Moze Nagar. Several potholes on the road were filled with water following rainfall.

When the student was passing near Puneri Biryani restaurant at D Y Patil Chowk, water from a pothole allegedly splashed onto Jagtap, who was travelling in the opposite direction on his motorcycle.

Angered by this, Jagtap allegedly followed the student and stopped him near Rajratna Hotel. He allegedly abused the boy, slapped him and punched him in the face before leaving the spot.

After reaching home, the student informed his father about the incident. The family subsequently approached Lohgaon Police Station and lodged a complaint against an unidentified person.

The student told police that the motorcycle used by the assailant had a police logo on the rear. Based on this information, investigators examined CCTV footage from the area.

Police scrutinised footage from several CCTV cameras for nearly a month and eventually identified the accused. The investigation established that he was a police employee posted at Chandannagar Police Station.

“The accused who assaulted the minor over the minor issue of water being splashed on him has been identified. He is working at Chandannagar Police Station. We have issued him a notice, and a chargesheet will be filed soon,” Inspector Patil said.
