Pune: 16-Year-Old Student Dies, Sister Seriously Injured as School Bus Hits Activa
Camp, 30th September 2026: A 16-year-old student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Southern Command, died after a mini school bus collided with an Activa scooter at the National War Memorial Chowk on Wednesday morning. His 18-year-old sister, who was riding the scooter, also sustained serious injuries.
The accident took place around 7:30 am on September 30, according to Wanowrie Police. Both siblings were admitted to Command Hospital for treatment, where the boy, Rohit Laxman Kudale, succumbed to his injuries during treatment, said Senior Police Inspector Pandit Rejitwad of Wanowrie Police Station.
Police identified the mini school bus driver as Dattatray Baswaraj Sagar, 26, a resident of Madhavnagar in Hadapsar. The bus belonged to Narayana School, Amanora, Hadapsar. According to police, Sagar was allegedly driving at high speed and negligently, disregarding traffic rules, when the bus collided with the Activa.
The Activa was being ridden by the boy’s 18-year-old sister, a student and resident of Manjari, while he was travelling as the pillion rider. Both sustained serious injuries in the collision, and the scooter was damaged.
Following the accident, the girl lodged a complaint with Wanowrie Police. A case was registered against the bus driver under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act, including those relating to rash and negligent driving and traffic violations.
Further investigation is underway to establish the exact circumstances leading to the collision.
