8 Students from Alandi Die by Drowning at Diveagar Beach in Raigad During Tour

Pune/Raigad, 1st October 2026: Eight students from Alandi in Pune district died after drowning at Diveagar beach in Shrivardhan taluka of Raigad district on Thursday. The students, who were studying in Classes 11 and 12 in the science stream, were part of a tourist group from Venus Academy in Alandi.

According to preliminary information, around 30 to 40 students from the academy had visited Diveagar for a tour. Eight students drowned while swimming in the sea after apparently misjudging the water conditions. All eight bodies have been recovered, and further procedures are underway.

The deceased have been identified as Yash Kiran Wankhede, Soham Tukaram Bhandwalkar, Tanmay Dattatray Vahile, Kaustubh Sandeep Daund, Kaivalya Wasankar, Rajveer Vahile, Pranav Bansode and Sumit Ahire.

Employees of Mahakali Water Sports and local residents assisted in the rescue operation. The bodies were taken to the primary health centre at Borli Panchatan.

Police and officials from the Revenue and Health Departments reached the spot and are carrying out the necessary procedures. Further investigation is underway to establish the circumstances that led to the incident.
