From Japan, Pune PMC Standing Committee Chairman Directs Action on Garbage, Water Supply
Pune, 2nd October 2026: Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Standing Committee Chairman Shrinath Bhimale on Thursday directed civic officials to take immediate action on complaints related to garbage collection, cleanliness, water supply and healthcare services in different parts of the city.
Bhimale, who is currently visiting Japan, attended the Pune Municipal Corporation’s Standing Committee meeting online along with Mayor Manjusha Nagpure, Additional Municipal Commissioner Prajit Nair and City Engineer Aniruddha Pawaskar. Other committee members and civic officials attended the meeting in person.
The committee discussed complaints regarding uncollected garbage, poor cleanliness, irregular water supply and contaminated drinking water. Wanowrie, Jambhulwadi, Wagholi and Katraj were among the areas where residents had complained about inadequate cleaning. Bhimale directed the concerned departments to inspect these areas and take immediate corrective action.
Complaints regarding irregular water supply were also discussed. In some areas, residents reported that contaminated water was entering the drinking water supply. Officials were directed to inspect the water supply systems in these areas, resolve the issues and ensure that residents receive clean and regular water.
The committee was also informed that frequent power cuts were affecting the water supply. In some areas, water tanks could not be filled to the required capacity due to power interruptions, resulting in disruptions to the water supply. The electrical department was directed to take necessary measures to prevent such interruptions.
Officials were also instructed to provide proper training to valve operators responsible for managing the water supply network.
The committee also reviewed healthcare arrangements amid complaints of an increase in cases of fever, body ache, dengue, malaria, swine flu, cold and cough. Municipal hospitals and dispensaries were instructed to ensure timely treatment for patients and maintain adequate stocks of medicines.
