Pune: Delivery Worker Booked for Posing as Policeman and Threatening Cab Driver
Pune, 2nd October 2026: Shivajinagar police have traced and booked a 27-year-old delivery worker who allegedly posed as a policeman, wore a police cap and threatened a cab driver on Ganeshkhind Road.
The accused has been identified as Mazhar Majid Sheikh (27), a resident of Burud Ali in Shirur. A case has been registered against him at the Shivajinagar police station based on a complaint filed by police constable Ashwini Gage.
A video of the incident recently went viral on social media. In the video, Sheikh is seen wearing a police cap and arguing with a cab driver. According to the police, Sheikh became angry after water from the cab’s windscreen wiper splashed into his eyes. He allegedly took the driver’s car keys and abused him.
Sheikh allegedly threatened the driver and said he would call the police emergency number 112. He also allegedly told the driver that he was an outsider while Sheikh was a local resident.
A woman travelling in the cab can be seen requesting Sheikh to stop. However, he allegedly continued to threaten the occupants while behaving as though he was a police officer.
After the video went viral, senior Pune police officials directed the Crime Branch and local police to investigate the incident. Shivajinagar police traced Sheikh and established that the incident had taken place on Ganeshkhind Road.
During the investigation, police found that Sheikh was not a police employee and had allegedly been impersonating a police officer.
The video had drawn criticism of the Pune police on social media. Police said the investigation subsequently established that the man seen in the video was an alleged impersonator and was not a member of the police force.
