Pune, 3rd October 2026: Pune district collector Jitendra Dudi has directed police to register FIRs against the concerned executive engineer and contractor if a person dies in an accident caused by an unrepaired pothole, putting road agencies on notice over delays in making Hinjewadi’s roads pothole-free.

Reviewing road and traffic works in the Chakan-Hinjewadi corridor on Friday, Dudi directed agencies to repair all remaining potholes within seven days, stressing that the repairs must be durable and not temporary patchwork.

The deadline to make Hinjewadi pothole-free was September 30, but several stretches remain unrepaired. Dudi said agencies would be held accountable for further delays.

He also directed MIDC and PMRDA to jointly survey Chakan’s drainage network, citing waterlogging as a major cause of road deterioration. Authorities were asked to take action against unauthorised structures over drains and prevent removed encroachments from returning.

The review also focused on traffic management in Chakan and Hinjewadi. Officials were directed to use traffic-volume data and future growth projections while planning roads, medians, U-turns and junctions. An intelligent traffic management system (ITMS) was also proposed for both areas.

Dudi further ordered action against private and state transport buses stopping on highways and service roads for passenger pick-up and drop-off. Authorities were asked to identify designated bus stops and shift PMPML stops from highways to service roads wherever feasible.

Officials from MIDC, PMRDA, municipal corporations, police, highways and other departments attended the meeting.
