Pune, 4th October 2026: A 25-year-old man was seriously injured after a country-made pistol allegedly in the possession of a minor went off accidentally in the Bibwewadi area of Pune in the early hours of October 2, police said.

The incident took place near Aaimata Temple Road in Bibwewadi, along the Gangadham-Bibwewadi Road. Police have registered a case against a 17-year-old minor for allegedly illegally possessing the firearm and causing injuries to his friend.

The injured man has been identified as Vijay Bhaskar Patil (25), a resident of Telco Colony in Dattanagar, Ambegaon-Katraj. Police Head Constable Shivanand Bole lodged the complaint at Bibwewadi police station.

According to police, the minor, who lives in a settlement in the Gultekdi area, and Patil are friends. The minor was allegedly carrying a country-made pistol without authorisation.

At around 2 am on October 2, the two were standing in an open area near Aaimata Temple on the Gangadham-Bibwewadi Road when the minor showed the pistol to Patil.

While handling the firearm, the trigger was allegedly pulled accidentally, resulting in a gunshot. The bullet struck Patil near his buttocks, leaving him seriously injured.

Police said the minor, who was reportedly frightened after the incident, immediately took Patil to a private hospital for treatment. During the initial medical examination, doctors found that Patil had sustained a gunshot injury.

The hospital subsequently informed the police about the incident, considering the seriousness of the injury. Patil is currently undergoing treatment.

Police are investigating the backgrounds of both the minor and Patil and are also trying to determine why the minor was carrying the pistol and from whom he obtained it, said investigating officer Police Sub-Inspector Nivas Shinde.
