Pune, 10th October 2026: The parents of Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), have criticised the government following his detention by Delhi Police at the national capital’s airport on Saturday, 10th October, expressing concern over the manner in which their son was taken into custody ahead of a planned protest.

Dipke’s mother, Anita Dipke, said she feared that her son would be arrested as he travelled to Delhi for the demonstration. She questioned the police action, particularly the decision to detain him inside the aircraft after it landed.

Speaking about the incident, Anita said her son had asked her not to watch television or check her phone that day. However, she eventually came across a video showing him being detained on the plane.

She described the action as wrong and questioned what crime her son had committed to warrant such treatment. She also warned that the government would be held accountable if anything happened to him.

Dipke’s father, Bhagwanrao Dipke, also condemned the police action and expressed his support for his son and his associates. He questioned why an ordinary person raising concerns about democracy was being detained while, in his view, people accused of serious crimes were not subjected to similar action.

The family’s remarks came after Abhijeet Dipke and fellow CJP leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das were detained shortly after their flight from Mumbai landed in Delhi. The leaders were travelling to participate in a planned demonstration at Jantar Mantar.

The protest was called to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations concerning voter-list manipulation and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The Election Commission has maintained that the revision process is intended to update electoral rolls, while critics have raised concerns about the deletion of voters’ names.

Delhi Police had denied permission for the proposed demonstration, citing procedural issues. Authorities deployed heavy security and detained protesters as part of measures to prevent the gathering.

The incident has intensified criticism of the police response, with questions being raised about restrictions on peaceful demonstrations and the treatment of people attempting to exercise their right to protest.

For Dipke’s parents, however, the episode has also become a deeply personal matter, with their concerns extending beyond the protest to their son’s safety and the circumstances surrounding his detention.
