Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the approval in a post on X on Wednesday,14th October. He said the addition would create more opportunities for MBBS aspirants and increase the number of doctors in the state.

“ The Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has approved a new medical college with 50 MBBS seats for ESIC Medical College and Hospital, Pune; from the academic year 2027-28 onwards,” Fadnavis wrote.

He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister J. P. Nadda for the approval, describing it as a “Navratri gift to Maharashtra”.

The approval comes as the National Medical Commission has opened applications for establishing new medical colleges and increasing MBBS intake capacity for the 2027–28 academic year. The commission published the relevant notice on October 8, 2026.

The addition of 50 MBBS seats in Pune will provide more opportunities for students seeking medical education. Further details regarding admissions and the college’s academic operations are expected to be made available through the relevant official channels.
