Pune RTO Warns Bus Operators Against Excess Fares During Diwali, Issues WhatsApp Helpline for Complaints
Pune, 27th October The Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has warned private bus operators against charging passengers fares exceeding the government-prescribed limits during the Diwali period. Action will be taken against violators under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and relevant rules, Regional Transport Officer Archana Gaikwad said.
With passenger numbers rising during Diwali, complaints of private bus operators charging exorbitant fares are common. Against this backdrop, the Pune RTO held a meeting with representatives of private bus operators to discuss measures to prevent passengers from being overcharged and ensure road safety.
Deputy Regional Transport Officer Swapnil Bhosale, probationary Assistant Regional Transport Officers Rahul Fasale and Rohit Arsul, and 26 representatives of the bus operators’ association attended the meeting.
As per the government resolution dated April 20, 2018, private bus operators are required to charge fares within the prescribed limits. The RTO will keep a special watch on operators during the festive period and take action against those violating the norms.
The RTO also directed bus operators to ensure that drivers do not drive under the influence of alcohol or use mobile phones while driving. Operators have been asked to ensure compliance with road safety rules, prioritise passenger safety and keep all mandatory vehicle documents valid.
Passengers who are charged excess fares or notice other violations can lodge complaints via WhatsApp at 8275330209. The RTO has urged complainants to provide their name, mobile number and a photograph of the ticket along with details of the complaint.
