Pune: BJP Forms Disciplinary Panel in PCMC Amid Growing Differences Among Corporators
Pune, 29th October 2026: Eight months after the BJP came to power in the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), internal differences within the party have come to the fore, with some ruling party corporators raising objections against their own colleagues during general body and standing committee meetings. Against this backdrop, the BJP has formed a city-level disciplinary committee to rein in factionalism and enforce organisational discipline.
The development comes after the municipal corporation witnessed the return of elected representatives after a gap of four years. While corporators have been raising issues concerning civic administration, some BJP members have adopted positions resembling those of the Opposition, questioning decisions taken by the ruling establishment. The situation has triggered discussions about internal divisions within the party and even led to a municipal general body meeting being adjourned.
The state BJP leadership and the city unit chief had earlier cautioned party office-bearers over such developments. However, differences among corporators and office-bearers have persisted, bringing the issue of organisational discipline into focus.
The newly constituted Pimpri Chinchwad city district disciplinary committee comprises MLC Uma Khapre, former Pimpri Chinchwad New Town Development Authority chairman Sadashiv Khade, ruling party leader Prashant Shitole, party general secretaries advocate Moreshwar Shedge and Vikas Dolas, and advocate Gorkhanath Zhol.
The committee has been empowered to take action against party office-bearers, elected representatives and workers for violating organisational discipline, attempting to tarnish the party’s image or adopting positions contrary to the party’s stand.
“ The disciplinary committee has been formed to ensure the smooth functioning and expansion of the organisation and maintain discipline among office-bearers and workers. Its objective is to take action against those who damage the party’s image or take an anti-party stand,” said Shatrughan Kate, BJP’s Pimpri Chinchwad city president.
Party leaders expect the committee to help resolve internal differences, improve coordination among corporators and ensure that the party’s civic functioning remains focused on development.
