No Thursday Water Cut in Pune During Diwali, PMC Announces Relief for Residents

Pune, 29th October 2026: In a relief for Pune residents during Diwali, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to suspend the weekly Thursday water cut during the festive period. The decision will ensure that the city’s water supply continues on Thursdays during Diwali, Chief Engineer Nandkishor Jagtap said.
The PMC had introduced a weekly water cut across Pune as part of its water conservation measures, keeping in mind the available water stock in dams supplying the city and future demand. The civic administration has been focusing on conserving water and managing the available reserves to meet the city’s needs.
However, water demand generally increases during Diwali due to household cleaning, preparation of festive food, visits by relatives and other celebrations. A full-day water cut on Thursday could have caused inconvenience to residents during the festive period.
Considering these factors, the civic administration has decided to cancel the Thursday water cut during Diwali, providing relief to residents. The regular weekly water conservation measure is aimed at ensuring the judicious use of available water resources.
