Pune, 2nd November 2026: The Rotary Club of Pune Amanora (RCPA), in collaboration with corporate social responsibility (CSR) partner UCC, has renovated the toilet facilities at Zilla Parishad Prathamik Shala in Pawarwadi, Kendur village, under its WINS (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene in Schools) initiative.

The project aims to provide students with access to clean, safe and hygienic sanitation facilities. According to Dimple Seth, Service Director of the Rotary Club of Pune Amanora, the renovation has directly benefited 55 students by providing them with upgraded toilet facilities featuring improved privacy and access to running water.

Seth said the school’s existing sanitation infrastructure required significant improvements to meet basic hygiene and health standards.

Recognising the importance of adequate sanitation in ensuring children’s health, safety, comfort and regular school attendance, the club took up the renovation project with support from UCC.

“The objective was to create a clean, hygienic and comfortable environment where children could access sanitation facilities with dignity. The response from the students and school authorities has been very encouraging. The children are extremely happy with their newly renovated bathrooms, which have brought a renewed sense of comfort and pride to the school,” Seth said.

A formal inauguration ceremony was organised at the school to mark the completion of the project. Representatives of the Rotary Club of Pune Amanora and UCC, along with members of the Kendur village administration, attended the event.

Kendur adopted as part of long-term rural development initiative

Seth said Kendur, which comprises a cluster of 13 villages, has been adopted by the Rotary Club of Pune Amanora as part of its long-term commitment to rural development and community welfare.

The school sanitation project is among several initiatives undertaken by the club in the region. Previous interventions have included renovation of local schools, initiatives to ensure sustainable access to clean drinking water and the distribution of sewing machines to local women to support livelihood generation and financial independence.

She said the club’s approach extends beyond individual infrastructure projects, focusing on improving essential services and creating opportunities for sustainable community development.

Through its continued partnership with UCC, the Rotary Club of Pune Amanora aims to strengthen its efforts towards improving education infrastructure, sanitation, access to basic amenities and livelihood opportunities in the Kendur region.

Seth said the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to the holistic development of rural communities, with particular emphasis on creating healthier and more supportive environments for children and families.
