Kondhwa, 29th October 2026: Maulana Mohammad Usman Rahmani Ludhianvi, Shahi Imam of Punjab, has called for collective efforts by families, religious organisations and community groups to address drug abuse and support people struggling with addiction.

Maulana Rahmani commended the United Minority Council (UMC) for its initiative to raise awareness about drug abuse and work towards a drug-free society in Pune and Maharashtra. He was speaking at a programme in Kondhwa at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Krida Sankul Ground.

He said greater awareness was needed, particularly among young people, to prevent substance abuse. He also stressed the importance of providing proper guidance, care, treatment and rehabilitation to people battling addiction.

“ We must hate addiction, not the person suffering from it. People caught in the grip of addiction need love, compassion and proper guidance. Community leaders, elders and family members must come together to address this social problem,” he said.

Maulana Rahmani said addiction affects not only an individual’s health and future but also the well-being of their family. He urged people not to isolate or condemn those struggling with substance abuse, but to help them access support and recovery services.

He also spoke about the importance of good character, humanity, compassion and service to others in building trust and harmony in society. He urged people to care for their parents, respect elders, fulfil family responsibilities and maintain cordial relations with people of all religions.
He further appealed to young people to stay away from addiction and other harmful habits and lead responsible lives.

During his visit, Maulana Rahmani interacted with representatives of religious and social organisations and religious scholars. The discussions covered issues concerning the community. Special arrangements were also made for women attending the programme.

Among those present on the dais were Mufti Aleem, Maulana Zakir, Mufti Abdul Muqtadir, Hafiz Salahuddin, Maulana Shakeel of Wadgaonsheri, Maulana Zaid, Maulana Muzammil, Mufti Jalal and Qari Inaam, along with other dignitaries.
