Swargate, 2nd November 2026: A 30-year-old woman was found dead at her residence in Mukund Nagar, Pune, on Monday, prompting her maternal family to allege dowry-related harassment by her husband and in-laws. The deceased has been identified as Payal Akshay Zambare. Her family has alleged that she was subjected to physical and mental harassment over repeated demands for gold and dowry.

The incident took place at an old flat in Akshay Heights Society, which falls under the jurisdiction of Swargate Police Station. Payal’s body was reportedly found hanging from a ceiling fan. She was employed at an IT company and had married Akshay Zambare around five years ago. The couple has a four-year-old daughter.

According to information shared with the family, Payal had reportedly been missing since Sunday night. Her cousin sister-in-law allegedly informed her brother about her disappearance, following which her brother, Rishikesh, was alerted. Family members rushed to the residence, where the incident came to light.

Swargate Police reached the spot after receiving information and sent the body to Sassoon General Hospital for post-mortem examination. A forensic team inspected the scene, while police are also examining CCTV footage from the society to establish the sequence of events.

Family Alleges Repeated Demands for Gold

Payal’s cousin, Janardan Pawar, alleged that her in-laws had been demanding between five and ten tolas of gold every year during Diwali. He claimed that this year, her maternal family had expressed its inability to fulfil the demand and requested that it be postponed until next year.

However, despite this, pressure was allegedly continued on Payal, and she was subjected to physical and mental harassment, Pawar alleged.

Following the incident, Payal’s relatives demanded a thorough investigation and action against those responsible. The family has also questioned the circumstances surrounding her death.

Husband and In-Laws Reportedly Leave the Spot

According to information received, Payal’s husband, father-in-law and mother-in-law reportedly left the spot following the incident. The allegations made by her maternal family are being examined by the police.

Payal’s death has left behind her four-year-old daughter. Police are investigating the case, and the exact circumstances surrounding her death are expected to become clearer after the post-mortem report and further investigation.
