Kondhwa, 3rd November 2026: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has seized 1,190 kg of Motichoor laddoos and boondi worth approximately Rs 1.73 lakh from Gayatri Ladoo Bhandar, a sweets manufacturing unit in Tilekar Nagar, Kondhwa Budruk, Pune, after detecting violations of food safety standards.
During an inspection, FDA officials found that the unit was using artificial food colours in excess of the prescribed limits. The inspection also revealed violations of mandatory hygiene and sanitation requirements during food production.
The officials further found that the manufacturing unit did not have the required analytical reports related to hygiene and sanitation.
The action comes a day after Maharashtra Food Safety Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe warned food manufacturers against excessive use of artificial colours in commercially produced laddoos. Speaking at a Diwali faral distribution programme organised by the Merchant Chamber, Mundhe had stressed that food colours must be used strictly within the prescribed standards.
Following the inspection, the FDA seized the entire stock of 1,190 kg of Motichoor laddoos and boondi. The seized stock is estimated to be worth Rs 1,73,950.
The action is part of the FDA’s intensified inspections ahead of Diwali to check food adulteration, excessive use of artificial colours and violations of food safety and hygiene regulations in sweets and festive food products.
