Pimpri Chinchwad, 4th November 2026: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) fire brigade has introduced a rotational night-duty roster for its seven officers after concerns were raised that none of them was assigned to the night shift.

Earlier, fire brigade officers would visit the spot when major fires or other emergencies occurred during the day. However, no senior officer was available at night to supervise operations or guide fire personnel during major incidents. The issue was highlighted by deputy commissioner Vyankatesh Durvas, who oversees the fire department.

Unlike the police force, which has deputy commissioner-level officers on night patrol to respond to major incidents and guide personnel, the fire brigade did not have a similar arrangement.

The concern was particularly significant as 150 personnel had recently joined the fire brigade. Although they had received firefighting training, they lacked extensive field experience, raising concerns about possible errors while handling major emergencies without the guidance of senior officers.

Taking note of the issue, Durvas has now assigned all seven officers night duties on a rotational basis. Officers will be available to visit the spot during major nighttime emergencies and guide firefighters.

An officer, Gautam Ingawale, was present at the site of the recent fire at two shops near Shagun Chowk in Pimpri.

“Night duties have been assigned to fire department officers on a rotational basis. This will ensure that officers are present during every major incident and can guide the fire brigade personnel,” Durvas said.
