Pune: Massive Fire At Chemical Company In Kurkumbh MIDC, Workers Rescued

Daund, October 1, 2020: A massive fire broke out at Shivshakti Oxalate Chemical Company in Kurkumbh MIDC (Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation) area in Daund taluka at early hours of Thursday. The chemical drums caused an explosion leading to huge fire which created panic among the villagers. There were around 10 workers in the factory when the accident took place, they all escaped safely.
The exact cause of the fire could not be ascertained. Fire services were rushed to the spot after the blaze erupted at around 1:45 am. Around 10 workers escaped from the company safely. It took about four hours for the fire brigade to control the fire in the factory.
As the fire and smoke billowed into the sky, the fire was visible for a distance of 20 km. Due to a large variety of storage of flammable chemicals drums in the company’s premises, the explosion could have happened, officials said.
