Pune: Police Arrest Chennai Gang Members For Cheating People By Luring Them For Loan

Pune, December 15, 2020: Police have exposed an inter-state gang that cheated citizens under the pretext of helping them get a loan. Two persons from Chennai have been caught red-handed and Rs 80 lakh was seized from their possession, including four expensive four-wheelers like Mercedes Benz and Innova. The main accused has escaped.

VM Muhammad Dawood Khan (28), Kartik Ravikumar (32, both residents of Pannaur, Chennai are the arrested accused. Earlier, two agents from Pune were arrested. The accused had defrauded Rs 1.5 crore on the pretext of giving a loan of Rs 25 crore to a person from Pune.

According to the police, the complainant Mane has a business of tax consultancy. As he needed Rs 25 crore for the business, he had approached Pankaj Pandey, an acquaintance from Pune. Pandey had promised to get the loan to Mane through Jayant Gaikwad, Satvik Chandrasekhar, Avinash Gurappa and Sameer Ali. They were to get a commission from the main accused. Pandey and Gaikwad had taken Mane to Chennai. There, the main accused Sameer Mohammad Ali, under the pretext of sanctioning the loan, had asked for an advance of Rs 1.52 crore.

The amount was accepted in an office in a luxurious bungalow. He also kept a luxury car in Mane’s service. However, the accused did not give any kind of loan. After the complaint was lodged, a team of Khadak police station went to Chennai. But the address and names of the accused were found to be false. However, the real name and address of the accused were found from their vehicle number. After this, a team of Khadak police went back to Chennai and arrested the two persons. However, the main accused Sameer Mohammad Ali escaped. The accused have defrauded many in this manner.

The matter is being investigated under the guidance of Commissioner of Police Amitabh Gupta, Additional Commissioner of Police Dr Sanjay Shinde, DCP (Zone 1) Priyanka Naranware and ACP (Faraskhana division) Gajanan Tompe.

Investigation team includes Senior Police Inspector Shrihari Bahirat, Inspector (crime) Harshvardhan Gade, Police Sub-Inspector Yashpal Suryavanshi, and police personnel Bunty Kamble, Sameer Malwadkar, Amey Rasal, Sandeep Patil and Rahul More.
