New Delhi, 31 May 2021: Starting from June 1, unlimited free storage for high-resolution pictures on the Google Photos app is about to end. Google introduced this policy in November last year. Thus, if you were using Google Photos App to backup your photos, you should worry about your online storage space. Let’s understand what the whole issue is and what you should do now:

Will your photos be deleted by themselves?

Google provides its users with a total of 15GB of free storage space. This storage space is divided into Gmail, Google Drive, and the Google Photos app. Before 1st June 2021, if you uploaded a photo with a high resolution on the Google Photos app, it would not be counted in 15 GB of storage. Thus, allowing the users to upload unlimited pictures of high resolution. But this rule will change from June 1. Under the new rule, these photos will also be counted in the 15GB free space. If you want to upload photos beyond that limit then the storage will have to be purchased.

According to Google, photos that have already been uploaded will not be affected by the policy change. So any high-resolution photos that you uploaded before the new policy is implemented, will not be counted in 15GB of storage, nor will they be deleted. But all photos uploaded from June 1 will be counted in your storage space.

How much does it cost to buy storage?

To store additional pictures, you will have to get a Google One membership. Google has offered several plans for this membership at different prices:

100GB plan: Rs 130 per month and Rs 1300 annually
