Delay In Issuing Character Certificate Due To Case Against Person With Similar Name, Pingale Set Himself On Fire Under Stress: Pune Police

Pune, 20th August 2021: Commissioner of Police Amitabh Gupta today said that Suresh Vitthal Pingale (42) of Khadki, who died of burn injuries after setting himself on fire in front of the entrance of the Police Commissionerate, was under stress due to family disputes and unemployment.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil has ordered a thorough inquiry into the suicide incident.
Addressing a press conference at the Commissionerate today, Gupta said that the two letters were found from the bag of Pingale. In one of the letters, he mentioned stress for the past six months due to family problems.
Around 11.30 am on Wednesday (August 18), Pingale had poured inflammable material on his body and set himself on fire in front of the entrance of the Police Commissioner office. He died at a private hospital during treatment on Friday.
According to police, in an eight-page letter, it was mentioned that Pingale had been facing many problems due to a family dispute for six months. He was under stress because of a family dispute. He had applied with Pune police for a character verification certificate to get a job with a private company. However, he was asked to re-apply due to the wrong address in the application. The investigation revealed that a case has been registered against another person named Pingale at Kothrud, Samarth, Sahakarnagar police station.
Pingale had to face trouble due to a case against a person with a similar name. In two of them, a report was sent to the local police station stating that no case had been registered against Suresh Vitthal Pingale. A verification report from Kothrud police was pending.
Gupta said the matter was sensitive and would be thoroughly investigated by the police.
Joint Commissioner of Police Dr Ravindra Shiswe, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) Sagar Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Branch) Mitesh Ghatte were also present.

He had to face difficulties in getting a character verification certificate as a case was registered against another person with a similar name. Pingale died by suicide due to a delay in getting the certificate. The matter is being investigated by the police, said Dilip Walse-Patil, Home Minister.
