A Tribute to Shobha Gurtu: Astha Shukla to Perform at Gandharva Mahavidyalaya

Pune, 27th November 2024: The prestigious Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Pune, under the aegis of the Bharatiya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal, is organizing a special event to commemorate the birth centenary of the renowned singer and Thumri Queen, Shobha Gurtu. The highlight of the event will be a performance by the celebrated singer, Astha Shukla, who will be presenting a repertoire of Thumri, Dadra, and Ghazal.

The program is scheduled for Friday, November 29, 2024, at 6:30 pm in the Vishnu Vinayak Swaramandir at Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Pune. This information was shared by Pandit Pramod Marathe, Principal of Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Pune, through a press release. Astha Shukla will be accompanied by Parth Tarabadkar on the Tabla and Shubhada Athavale on the Harmonium. The event is open to all.

Astha Shukla was introduced to the world of music by her mother, Veena Pani. Subsequently, she received training from the renowned classical singer Pandit Kashinath Shankar Bodas of Kanpur. After her Guru’s untimely demise, she continued her training under the renowned Gwalior Gharana vocalist Dr. Veena Sahasrabuddhe. Recognizing Astha’s inclination towards semi-classical music, her mother, Veena Pani, provided her with specialized training in Thumri.
