Pune, March 2, 2020 : A popular workshop called Writing With Women (WWW) will be organized by author Sudha Menon in Pune. A unique project where women from diverse backgrounds and age groups come together to share their experiences through writing and telling their stories, WWW will be held on Saturday March 7, 2020 at Munching Route Café,101/B, First Floor, Bizbay Baner, Pune from 2.30 PM and 5.30 PM.

“With International Women’s Day celebrated on March 8, I thought this is the perfect time to give a platform for women to voice their hopes, aspirations and experiences. We hold up half the sky but a majority of us don’t have the privilege of anybody asking us for our opinion, leave alone our aspirations,” said Sudha, who is the author of books including Feisty At Fifty, Legacy and Devi and Diva or She Devil.

Menon will be joined by women from a across different walks of life who are pulled together by shared experiences, their love for the written word and the need for networking. The first edition of WWW was held in Pune about three years ago and was attended by a group of sterling Pune women including Anu Aga, Former Thermax Chairperson, Aarti Kirloskar, Pune convenor, INTACH and Rati Forbes, Director, Forbes Marshall who wrote about their experiences at the event.

“When women write down their stories, it is not just about them. Through their stories we get a peek at social milieu of the times- family structures, gender equations. Unfortunately, very few women think of documenting their experiences. In the olden days, women lived in large families, interacted more with other women at work, during festivals and family get togethers. Given the high pressure lives we live today, most of us lead largely isolated lives with little time to nurture our souls. Our thoughts and feelings remain within us, unexpressed. Unlike earlier times when mothers and grandmothers wrote letters to us, we don’t even have that precious legacy in the FB, Instagram and Whatsapp world that we live in,” Menon said.

According to her, today’s women have discovered their identity, are chasing their dreams with passion and straining to break the chains of societal expectations, stereotypes and conservative norms.

“Now, more than ever, I think it is important for us women to get together, share our experiences and write about them because if we don’t, we are in the danger of losing the stuff that our future generations, especially our daughters, can learn from,” she stated.

Menon will use a combination of memory mining and writing prompts to take workshop participants into parts of their life they want to capture.

The entry to the workshop will be charged and for prior registrations please call at- 9823035869 / 9673996270
