Mumbai, January 1, 2025: The Mahavitaran Abhay Yojana 2024, launched to benefit domestic, commercial, and industrial electricity consumers whose connections were permanently disconnected due to arrears, has been extended until March 31, 2025. This extension follows growing demand from consumers across the state. Under this scheme, the entire interest and late payment fees on outstanding electricity bills are waived. Consumers are urged to take advantage of this final extension, according to Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) Chairman and Managing Director, Lokesh Chandra.

The scheme, originally introduced on September 1, 2024, targeted consumers whose electricity supply had been permanently disconnected (PD) due to arrears as of March 31, 2024. After its initial expiration on November 30, it was extended for one month until December 31. Due to the overwhelming response, the deadline has now been pushed to March 31, 2025. However, Mahavitaran has clarified that there will be no further extensions, and legal action will be taken against those who fail to clear their dues after this deadline.

Scheme Success So Far
As of now, 93,848 consumers statewide have benefited from the scheme, clearing dues amounting to ₹130 crore. This initiative has resulted in the waiver of ₹57.36 crore in interest and ₹2.12 crore in late payment charges.

Payment Options and Discounts
The scheme allows consumers to pay 30 percent of their original bill upfront, with the remaining 70 percent payable in six installments. Consumers paying the entire amount in one go receive additional benefits:

Low-voltage residential and commercial consumers: 10 percent discount
High-voltage industrial and commercial consumers: 5 percent discount
The scheme also extends to consumers in franchise areas, including Bhiwandi, Malegaon, Mumbra, Sheel, and Kalwa.

Legal Mandate and Appeal
As per a Supreme Court ruling, the owner, buyer, or occupier of any premises is legally required to clear any outstanding electricity bills. Non-payment may result in legal action. Mahavitaran has appealed to consumers to utilize this scheme to settle dues and restore their electricity connections without further complications.
