Academic Year Will Begin From November 1

Pune, September 22, 2020: University Grants Commission (UGC) made it clear that the first year classes for undergraduate and postgraduate students will start from November 1, 2020. While releasing a new academic calendar, education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal directed the universities to take action accordingly.
He also said that the summer and winter breaks too will be of short duration.

Due to the pandemic the academic schedule of higher education was disturbed this year. UGC had appointed a committee of experts, following their recommendations the UGC released its first-year undergraduate and postgraduate guidelines. The admission process of postgraduates and undergraduates must be completed before 31st October. The entrance exam results will be declared before October 31 which includes JEE, NEET and state-level CET exams. Therefore, the deadline for the completing first-year admission process will be November 30, UGC said.
The final year exam will be held in October and the result will be announced in the first week of November. In case the result is delayed the university can start the academic year from November 18.

UGC also clarified that the teaching process can be offline or online. Students won’t be having one or two months break after the semester ends. And the new academic year will begin from August 30, 2021.

“The final year degree examinations will be held till October 31 in Maharashtra and therefore, the deadline to start the first-year classes in Maharashtra will be November 18”, said Bhushan Patwardhan, Vice Chairman, UGC

Schedule for first- year

The class will start: 1st November 2020
Academic break: March 1st to 7th, 2021
1st Semester Examination: 8th to 26th March 2021
Semester break: March 27th to April 4th , 2021
Second Semester Classes: April 5th to 2021
Academic break: 1st to 8th August 2021
2nd Semester Examination: 9th to 21st August 2021
Beginning of the new academic year: 30th August 2021
