Actor Nana Patekar Cremated With State Honours in Pune

Donje, 8th October 2026: Veteran actor and Padma Shri awardee Nana Patekar was cremated with full state honours at Donje near Sinhagad in Pune on Thursday. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis paid his last respects to the actor and met his family members to offer condolences.

Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar, Union Ministers of State Ramdas Athawale and Murlidhar Mohol, Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, Industries Minister Uday Samant and Minister of State Madhuri Misal were among those who paid their respects and laid wreaths at Patekar’s mortal remains.

Patekar, who had a long and distinguished career in Marathi theatre as well as Marathi and Hindi cinema, earned recognition for his powerful performances across a wide range of roles. Over the decades, he established a distinct identity in Indian cinema and theatre and also made notable contributions to social causes.

Before the cremation, a large number of citizens, artists, social workers, admirers and people from different walks of life gathered at Donje to pay their final respects. Many offered floral tributes and mourned the death of the veteran actor.

The Maharashtra Police accorded Patekar a ceremonial guard of honour as part of the state funeral.

Several other political leaders and public figures were also present, including MP Sunil Tatkare, former minister Arjun Khotkar, MLAs Sadabhau Khot, Bhai Jagtap, Hemant Patil, Aniket Tatkare, Gopichand Padalkar, Amit Gorkhe and Bhimrao Tapkir.

Poptarao Pawar, working president of the Adarsh Gaon Sankalp and Prakalp Samiti, Pune Mayor Manjusha Nagpure, Standing Committee Chairman Yuvraj Kakade, Chief Executive Officer Gajanan Patil, Special Inspector General of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma, Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Tukaram Munde and Superintendent of Police Sandeep Singh Gill were also present.
