Pune, 16th January 2024: In a strategic move to bolster its revenue amidst financial challenges, Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has given a tender to Adani Group for the establishment of charging stations at seven locations in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad cities. Adani has taken on the responsibility of setting up charging infrastructure at four of these locations, with PMPML to receive 32.5 per cent of the generated income.

PMPML, a major public service provider catering to over one million passengers in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, has been grappling with financial losses, reporting a deficit of Rs 1000 crore last year. In response to these challenges, the PMPML administration is exploring innovative measures to enhance income. Leveraging commercial spaces for private charging stations is one such initiative.

The tender process initiated by PMPML attracted bids from various companies, and Adani Group emerged as the top bidder, expressing readiness to contribute the highest amount to PMPML. An agreement has been formalized with Adani Group, and the first phase involves the construction of private charging stations at seven locations.

Adani will set up charging stations at Hinjawadi Phase-II, Bhakti-Shakti, Bhosari, Katraj, Baner-Sus Road, Pulgate, and Deccan Gymkhana in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. These stations will offer 24-hour charging facilities, catering to two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and four-wheelers operating on electricity.

Following the establishment of the charging stations on PMPML premises, Adani will gain access to the available commercial space for free use. The collaboration aims to not only provide essential charging infrastructure for electric vehicles but also generate revenue for PMPML, contributing to its financial sustainability.

Nitin Narvekar, Joint Managing Director of PMPML, expressed confidence that the completion of works at four charging stations is imminent, with the facility set to commence operations in the coming days.
