AFMC CONDUCTS “HEAD AND NECK CADAVERIC DISSECTION WORKSHOP-2016”

Department of ENT – Head & Neck Surgery, Armed Forces Medical College, Pune  conducted a three day national level “Head and Neck Cadaveric Dissection Workshop 2016” from 22-24 Apr 2016. The workshop was organized in association with the Dept of Anatomy, AFMC and Malignant Diseases Treatment Centre, Command Hospital (Southern Command), Pune.

Lt Gen AK Nagpal, VSM, Director and Commandant, AFMC stated that the Department of ENT-Head & Neck Surgery has attained state of the art capabilities in various fields including, head and neck onco-surgery, cochlear implant surgery and endoscopic surgery. Head & Neck cancers constitute one third of all the cancers in this country, and the department has been providing comprehensive cancer treatment free of cost to civilian patients.

According to Brig Ajith Nilakantan, Professor & HOD, Dept of ENT, the workshop aimed to present a comprehensive overview of the practical clinical protocols in management of the various head and neck cancers as relevant to post-graduate residents in ENT, General Surgery and Oral & Maxillo-Facial Surgery, in addition to improving the surgical skills of the residents in various surgical procedures in Head & Neck Surgery by means of hands-on training in cadavers under close supervision by faculty.   Formal teaching sessions were combined with supervised practical training. The faculty included stalwarts in the various disciplines involved in Head –Neck Oncology.
