AFMC CYCLING EXPEDITION FLAGGED OFF

The second annual Mountain terrain Cycling expedition organised by Armed Forces Medical College, Pune in association with Army Adventure Cell, Headquarters Southern Command, Pune was flagged off by Lt Gen A K Nagpal, VSM, Director & Commandant, AFMC, Pune on 16th of January, 2016.

The expedition is being undertaken by Twenty five Medical Cadets including five Lady Medical Cadets and five Faculty members. It will cover a distance of 400 Km through the Western Ghats around Pune District over a week. The expedition will pass through  Pawana Dam, Lonavala, Mulshi Dam, Temgad , Lavasa, Panshet Dam, Khadakwasla, Singhad Fort and return to Pune via Khed & Saswad. The expedition route will include both on road and off road cycling. The cyclists will pass through the Western Ghats and encounter several steep climbs and descents.

According to Maj Gen A K Das, Dean & Deputy Commandant, AFMC, the Cycling club of Armed Forces Medical College, Pune  was established in 2011. It has been organising numerous events regularly and taking part in cycling competitions held in and around Pune. AFMC encourages overall personality development of medical cadets through various clubs and societies. The endeavour of this expedition is to develop the spirit of adventure, sportsmanship, team spirit, leadership qualities and build up mental and physical endurance in future officers of Armed Forces Medical Services.
