AHMEDNAGAR CELEBRATES 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF 1971 VICTORY : BANGLADESH ARMY OFFICERS JOIN CELEBRATIONS

Ahmednagar, 4 February 2021: As the nation celebrates “SWARNIM VIJAY VARSH” – 50th anniversary of the spectacular Victory if Indian Armed Forces in the 1971 Indo-Pak War, the cantonment city of Ahmednagar hosted one of the Victory Flames lighted earlier at National War Memorial in Delhi, on the Southern leg of it’s journey. A number of events were organaised between 29 January and 03 February 2021, to commemorate the occasion.

 

On arrival in Ahmednagar, the Victory Flame was escorted by motorcycle Outriders, Cyclists and Runners, to the iconic War Memorial in Mechanised Infantry Regimental Centre (MIRC), where it was received by Lieutenant Colonel Anant Ghokale, senior most 1971 War Veteran of the area, in the presence of Brigadier VS Rana, Vishist Seva Medal, Commandant, MIRC.

 

Highlight of the celebrations at Ahmednagar was the participation of two officers of Bangladesh National Army (BNA), who are currently attending a course at MIRC. Wreaths were laid at the National War Memorial by the 1971 War Veterans, Commandant MIRC and an officer from BNA, in memory of the gallant personal who made the supreme sacrifice during the 1971 operations.

 

Felicitation of 1971 War Veterans and Veer Naris at a solemn function, cultural programmes, a 50 Km Cyclothon organised in conjunction with cycling enthusiasts from Ahmednagar, painting competition for children, display of audio-visual content related to the 1971 War besides an Army equipment display for citizens of Ahmednagar City, were other events organised on the occasion. As a mark of gratitude, the Victory Flame was taken to the native places of senior 1971 War Veterans who could not attend the celebrations.

 

Speaking at the Felicitation function, officers from BNA recalled the decisive role played by the Indian Armed Forces in the 1971 Liberation War of Bangladesh and the special bonds of friendship shared between both the nations.

 

The Victory Flame was flagged off on it’s onward journey on 03 February 2021 from MIRC towards Bijapur.
