Air Force Station Pune Organises First Sekhon IAF Marathon to Honour PVC Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon
Lohgaon, 3rd November 2025: The Air Force Station Pune organised the first edition of the Sekhon Indian Air Force Marathon on November 2, 2025, to commemorate the valour and legacy of Param Vir Chakra (PVC) awardee Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, the only recipient of the nation’s highest wartime gallantry award from the Indian Air Force.
The marathon featured three categories — 21 km, 10 km, and 5 km — and served as a fitting tribute to Flying Officer Sekhon, who was himself a passionate sportsman. The event witnessed participation from over 2,500 Air Warriors, their families, schoolchildren, and citizens of Pune, all running to celebrate courage, fitness, and patriotism.
The run was flagged off at 5:45 am by Air Commodore Satbir Singh Rai, VM, Air Officer Commanding, Air Force Station Pune, from the Station Sports Ground. Participants displayed great enthusiasm and spirit, turning the event into a resounding success.
The marathon concluded at 9:30 am with a prize distribution ceremony at the Station Sports Ground. Addressing the gathering, Air Commodore Rai emphasised the importance of maintaining physical fitness in everyday life, particularly for those in uniform. He urged participants to adopt regular workout routines to remain both physically fit and mentally agile.
The event not only paid homage to the supreme sacrifice of Flying Officer Sekhon but also inspired participants to uphold the values of discipline, endurance, and commitment that define the Indian Air Force.
