Amit Thackeray Visits Pune College, Fumes Over Poor Student Facilities; Questions PM Modi Photo Beside Shivaji Maharaj in Principal’s Office
Pune, 31st August 2026: MNS leader Amit Thackeray, who is on a visit to Pune, expressed anger over the facilities being provided to students at the Government College of Engineering and Research in Shivajinagar and warned of an aggressive protest if their grievances were not addressed immediately.
Thackeray visited the college on Monday morning and interacted with students to understand the problems they were facing. Students reportedly showed him photographs of unhygienic toilets at the hostel, inadequate facilities and poor food being served at the college mess.
Thackeray was also shown photographs of worms allegedly found in food served at the mess. He later inspected the canteen, where he found rotten onions, following which he became visibly angry. He took the rotten onions to the professors’ office and questioned the authorities over the quality of food being served to students.
He warned the college administration that if students were not provided proper facilities and good-quality food immediately, the MNS would launch an aggressive agitation.
During the visit, Thackeray also entered the principal’s office and questioned him about the facilities available to students.
He reportedly objected to a photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi being displayed alongside portraits of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar in the principal’s office.
“Why is the Prime Minister’s photograph placed next to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj?” Thackeray questioned the principal, according to party workers present at the spot. He subsequently asked his supporters to remove the photograph of Prime Minister Modi from the office.
