Amritanjali Festival to Showcase Bharatanatyam Excellence in Pune

Pune, 27th March 2024: The much-awaited Amritanjali Festival, hosted annually by Dr. Shashikala Ravi, Founder Director of the Amritanjali School of Bharatanatyam, promises an enchanting evening of Bharatanatyam performances by esteemed artists on April 7, 2024.

This year’s lineup features captivating presentations by renowned Bharatanatyam maestros:

1. Kalaimamani Roja Kannan from Chennai, President of ABHAI (Association of Bharatanatyam Artists of India), will enthrall the audience with her performance titled “Magic of Margam.” With illustrious training under the tutelage of world-renowned Gurus Adyar K. Lakshman and Kalanidhi Narayanan, Roja Kannan is revered as one of the leading Acharyas in the realm of Bharatanatyam. As part of the festival, she will also conduct a Bharatanatyam workshop on April 5th and 6th in Pune.

2. Guru Dr. Sucheta Bhide-Chapekar, a recipient of the Sangeet Natak Academy award, along with her daughter disciple Mrs. Arundhati Patwardhan and granddaughter Sagarika Patwardhan, will present “Parampara.” Dr. Sucheta Bhide-Chapekar’s illustrious career spans over 50 years, during which she has not only mastered the art of Bharatanatyam but also pioneered Nritya Ganga, a unique fusion of Bharatanatyam with Hindustani music.

3. Dr. Shashikala Ravi, the Convenor and Coordinator of the festival, will grace the stage with her performance titled “Omkarakarini,” an exploration of the Universal Divine Goddess. Dr. Ravi, herself a distinguished Bharatanatyam artist, is dedicated to promoting classical dance forms. She hosts various festivals, including the Amritanjali Festival of Classical Dance & Music, Amritanjali Nrityotsava, and An Evening of Bharatanatyam and Folk Dances, all held at the state-of-the-art Amritanjali Studio in Viman Nagar, Pune.

The esteemed Guru Shama Bhate, also a Sangeet Natak Academy awardee, will preside over the program as the Chief Guest on April 7th.
