An Artistic Treat at FLAME University FLAME Artists’ Residency Inaugural edition of FLAME Artists’ Residency at FLAME University, Pune

Pune, January 15th, 2018-Flame University, the pioneers of Liberal Education in India, announced the launch of the inaugural FLAME Artists’ Residency, a 21 day extavaganza which will end of January 29ththeir campus in Pune. The event is an endeavour to create conversations around art and generate insights into the process of art making for the students and colleagues. The inaugural edition held on the campus featured two young artists, Garima Gupta (Bengaluru) and Roshan Chhabria (Baroda) who were selected by a committee of experts through a rigorous process.
Speaking at the launch of the event Dr. Vinod Vidwans, Dean, FLAME School of Performing Arts, Flame University said, “Through the Flame Artists’ Residency, we intend to give a unique platform to our students and artists alike to have meaningful conversations and interactions around art. We will have artists making presentations about their work, guest lectures, open studios, etc. for our students to intrigue them towards the field of art. This is a first of its kind initiative launched by a private university in India and it makes us extremely proud.”
The Flame Artists’ Residency will see several eminent artists, curators, activists, gallerists, writers like Suresh Jayaram, LathaTummuru, Manish Nai, BhavnaKakar among other gracing the event over the course of the next 3 weeks. Students will not only get an opportunity to interact with these artists but will also get time to understand their field and their working style.

The inaugural ceremony was held on 8th January which was attended by students from FLAME University as well as other universities. On 12th January,artists in residence, Garima Gupta & Roshan Chhabria spoke about their work and art practice.
Garima Gupta is a graduate from National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad. She has presented her art at galleries and residencies all over the world, especially her recent projects ‘Birds of Paradise’ and “Bambai Project” have been truly appreciated. Roshan Chhabria is an artist from Baroda and has been a part of workshops like the CAVA Workshop Mysore 2010 and many group shows and residencies like ‘RE Union’ Show 2012. He was also a part of the Queen of Hungary Project Space 2017 which was held in London.

The FLAME Artists’ Residency extends upto the 29th January, 2018.
